Eric Johnson (b. August 20, 1953) is a Republican member of the Georgia State Senate. He has been a Senator since 1994 and currently serves the 1st district.
Education
Johnson earned his MA in Architecture from Tulane University in 1976.
Professional experience
Johnson was Architect/Vice President of Hussey, Gay, Bell and Deyoung International in 1986. He is currently an Architect for North Point Real Estate.
Political experience
Johnson was Regional Director for United States Senator Mack Mattingly from 1981 to 1983. He was Chair of the Chatham County Republican Party from 1987 to 1989. He then served in the Georgia State House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994. He joined the Georgia State Senate in 1994 and has served in that position since. From 1997 to 1998 he was Senate Minority Whip and from 1999 to 2000 he was Senate Minority Leader. He has been President Pro Tempore of the Senate since 2003, representing the 1st district.
