2012
Stewart was defeated by incumbent Scott DesJarlais.[2] Stewart ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Tennessee's 4th District. Stewart ran unopposed in the August 2 Democratic primary. He faced incumbent Scott DesJarlais (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[3][4]

On Nov. 4, 2008, Stewart won election to the 14th District Seat in the Tennessee State Senate, defeating opponent Mike Niederhauser (R). [5]
