West ran in the 2010 election for Arizona House of Representatives District 11. West was defeated by Democrat Eric Meyer and Republican Kate Brophy McGee in the general election which took place on November 2. West and McGee defeated Shawna Bolick and Bev Kraft in the Republican primary election on August 24, 2010.

West earned his B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of Arizona. He went on to receive an MS degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University. He then earned a law degree from Stanford Law School. West is currently employed as a real estate attorney with Jennings Strouss and Salmon. He formerly worked as a financial planner for the Bank of America. He has also worked in corporate finance.
