Biography

Professional experience

"A small businessman, Erwin owns a real estate investment company. In college, Cain served as Texas state president of the Junior Collegiate Distributive Education Club of America (DECA). At the time, DECA was the nation’s 2nd largest scholastic organization and focused on training young entrepreneurs for the business world.

Erwin’s law practice extends throughout East and Northeast Texas, where he has built a practice representing those who have been sued and defending against frivolous lawsuits. He has owned his own law firm for 16 years."

Cain's campaign site gave the following statement as to why he is ran for office: "Erwin believes this is a critical time to stem the rising tide of government’s efforts to control all aspects of our lives. His policy will be to reduce taxes and spending, protect private property rights, crack down on illegal immigration, preserve election integrity by passing a Voter ID bill, protect our right to keep and bear arms, and promote jobs and economic development for East Texas.

A traditional conservative, Erwin is committed to serving as a leader in the fight to preserve the values of faith and family. In announcing his candidacy, he said, “As a husband and a father of three I have learned the importance of strong family values, teaching by example, and personal responsibility. That starts with integrity, the bedrock of a strong moral core. I will always champion the sanctity of life and fight to preserve traditional marriage.”."

• Illegal Immigration

Excerpt: "The federal government has failed us miserably on this front, and Texas has been forced to use state taxpayer resources to secure our border. Maybe we ought to consider sending a bill to Washington for having to spend our taxpayer dollars to enforce border security."

• Voter ID

Excerpt: "I strongly support a voter ID bill, and I’ll be part of working to get passed this next session. We’ve got to ensure the integrity of our elections, and I just can’t imagine why anyone would oppose showing a photo id before they go in the voting booth. You have to show an ID to rent a video – it’s just common sense that you should do the same to vote."

• Big Government

Excerpt: "The role of government should be limited to those obligations outlined in the United States Constitution, primarily to insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty...The voters in this district want a representative who will apply a common sense approach to limited but effective government. I will apply our rich conservative East Texas values from the experience of a long time business man with a trained legal mind."

Excerpt: "The State has to live within its means, just like East Texas families do. Families across East Texas are having discussions - right now – about where they will cut back in their family budget. We are taxed too much already. So if anyone believes we need more taxes to solve our problems, I’m not going to be your candidate. Not only do taxes need to be reduced, but spending needs to be trimmed. The entire budget needs to be examined to eliminate wasteful spending and ineffective programs."
