This measure sought to increase the current district levy to one set at a rate of 8.612 mills for a continuing period of time in order to further pay for fire protection, emergency services and maintenance costs in the district. District officials noted that the decrease in property tax values had led to the need for a higher tax rate. The cost will amount to a new tax of $8.57 per month on average for owners of homes costing $150,000. Officials noted that they do not plan to add any more services, the money will just be used to maintain current services offered. Proponents of the tax increase noted that the fire district has the lowest levy rate among similar districts, it is the third busiest in the county.
