Farm Sanctuary is a financial backer of California Proposition 2 (2008), having given $150,000 in support of that measure through July 13, 2008[1]

The group was founded in 1986, and is headquartered in Watkins Glen, New York. Farm Sanctuary owns a 300-acre farm in California near Black Butte Lake, 30 miles west of Chico (100 miles north of Sacramento).

The group describes itself as "the nation's leading farm animal protection organization, with hundreds of thousands of supporters. Farm Sanctuary remains solidly committed to our mission to end cruelty to farm animals and promote compassionate living through rescue, education and advocacy efforts."
