A Fayette County School Sales Tax Increase measure was on the April 5, 2011 ballot in Fayette County.

This measure was defeated

  • YES 1,087 (41.55%)
  • NO 1,529 (58.45%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure sought to increase the current sales tax rate by 1 percent in order to help fund county schools. The money from this sales tax increase would have gone towards helping with paying off bond money, off setting the loss in property tax rates and other general needs for the schools. Some officials noted that now was not a good time to ask for the increase but school officials stated that the money was needed and they had been trying for several years. The money would have been dispersed to the different school districts based on their student population.[2]
