On November 8, 2011, Smith won re-election to District 27 of the Mississippi House of Representatives. He ran unopposed in the August 2 primary and defeated R. Dewayne Gill (R) in the November 8 general election. [2]

On November 6, 2007 Smith was re-elected to District 27, defeating Republican challenger Ricky Gill.[3]. He defeated Eddie Perry in the primary election by a margin of 947-858.[4]
