BISMARCK, North Dakota: Supporters of the "Fighting Sioux" nickname for UND sports teams have decided not to put the issue before voters again this year and are instead gearing up for a spot on the June ballot in 2014.

The measure being proposed differs from the referendum voted on earlier this year in that it is a constitutional amendment and would be much more difficult to overturn if passed because it would amend the state's constitution.[1]

To qualify for the 2014 ballot, supporters have until December 12, 2012 to turn in 27,000 signatures to Secretary of State Al Jaeger.[1]

Upcoming: Two measures are scheduled to appear on the November 6, 2012 North Dakota ballot.

Type Title Subject Description
LRCA Measure 1 Admin of gov't Would revoke the authority for the poll tax and remove the offensive language
LRCA Measure 2 Admin of gov't Would require the governor and other executive officials to take an oath of office
