There was a Florence Annexation into Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue District measure on the May 18 ballot in Lane County for voters in the city of Florence.

This measure was approved

  • YES 2,068 (67.34%)Approveda
  • NO 1,003 (32.66%)[1]

The measure asked Florence residents if they wanted the city to be annexed into the Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue District. Before, Florence residents paid $.31 cents per $1000 of assessed property value towards funding fire protection services and those outside the city paid $1.54 per $1,000 of assessed property value. Since this measure was approved, those who are within the city will pay an equal amount as those outside meaning that taxes will be raised. But city officials felt that this was the best option to continue fire protection services to residents in the city.[2]
