Florida Supreme Court sides with voters in term limits case May 14, 2012

TALLAHASSEE, Florida: On Thursday, May 10, the Florida Supreme Court ruled on a case questioning voter-approved term limits in Broward County. The court ruled in favor of the limits, determining that a precedent set in 2002 invalidating the limits was wrong because it "undermines the ability of counties to govern themselves." The ruling could mean that two Polk County Commission races are open to additional candidates due to two incumbents being unable to run again. Ten Florida counties, out of the twenty with "home-rule" charters, have voter imposed term limits.^[1]
