The Right to change statutes did not appear on the November 4, 2008 statewide ballot in Florida as an initiated constitutional amendment. The measure would have established the power to propose the revision or amendment of any portion or portions of statutes which have derived from this constitution by initiative is reserved to the people and the citizens of Florida right and authority to make and change their constitution and statutes must prevail by filing with the custodian of state records a petition or any elector personally filing recommendations or proposals which form for filing shall be provided by the state.

Overview

The initiative and referendum process, at the time, was only available through a constitutional amendment. This initiative would have also allowed statutes to be proposed and vetoed.
