Florida Basic Rights Act (1998)

Florida Amendment 9, also known as the Basic Rights Act, was on the November 3, 1998 election ballot in Florida. It passed, with 66.3% of voters in favor.
Amendment 9 was one of nine ballot measures placed on the 1998 Florida ballot by the Florida Constitution Revision Commission.
Text of the proposal
The language that appeared on the ballot:
Defines "natural persons," who are equal before the law and who have inalienable rights, as "female and male alike;" provides that no person shall be deprived of any right because of national origin; changes "physical handicap" to "physical disability" as a reason that people are protected from being deprived of any right.
