DES MOINES, Iowa: Two weeks after pleading guilty to a drunken driving charge, former President of the Iowa State Senate Jeff Lamberti was named yesterday as the new leader of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. Commissioner Dolores Mertz, who is also a former legislator, endorsed Lamberti for the post and the motion was approved without debate.[1]

Lamberti is a lawyer and president of the Iowa Barnstormers Arena Football team. The commission is responsible for regulation of 18 casinos, two greyhound tracks and one horse track.[2] He stated, “I am glad they have confidence in me and my intention is to put this behind me and move forward."[1]
