DES MOINES, Iowa: On May 6, former Iowa State Senator Bill Heckroth announced his intent to run for the newly created Iowa House District 63 in 2012.[1] District 63 was recently created by the Iowa redistricting process, and includes includes Bremer and northern Black Hawk counties. District 63 does not have an incumbent.

Heckroth was defeated in last November's Iowa State Senate election by Republican Bill Dix. Dix beat then incumbent Heckroth by a margin of 13,189 to 9,605 - a difference of 3,584 votes. Dix and Heckroth were the only two contenders in the 2010 District 9 race.

Heckroth was first elected to the Iowa State Senate in 2006, and served one term.
