Fort Collins Instant Run Off Voting Question (April 2011)
This measure was defeated
- YES 38.63%
- NO 61.37%
This measure was brought forth by a petition which collected 2,517 valid signatures to let city voters decide if instant runoff voting should be implemented. City officials still had to vote to approve this measure for the April ballot, they could have also chosen to adopt the new form of voting without a public vote. If this had been approved by voters, the new system would have gone into effect for the 2013 municipal elections. The campaign for this measure noted that the difficult issue will be to educate voters about this new proposed system and how it would work in practice. Proponents were also looking to expand this type of voting to certain state wide races.
