Frank A. LoBiondo (b. May 12, 1946) is a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from New Jersey. LoBiondo was elected by voters from New Jersey's 2nd congressional district. He ran for re-election in 2012 against Cassandra Shober (D), John Ordille (L), David Bowen Sr. (I), Charles Lukens (I) and Frank Faralli Jr. (I), and won.[1]

Based on an analysis of bill sponsorship by GovTrack, Lobiondo is a "centrist Republican".[2]

Biography

LoBiondo was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He graduated with a B.A. from St. Joseph’s University in 1968.[3]

Career

After earning his undergraduate degree in business administration, LoBiondo joined his family's trucking company before entering public office.[4]

Earmarks

A Washington Post investigation in February 2012 revealed that 33 members of Congress helped direct more than $300 million in earmarks to public projects in close proximity to commercial and residential real estate owned by the lawmakers or their family members.[7] According to the report, LoBiondo has helped secure $4.68 million for beach monitoring and nourishment along the shores of Ventnor City, N.J., where he and his wife own a home about 850 feet from the beach.[8]

Fiscal Cliff

Voted "Yes" LoBiondo voted for the fiscal cliff compromise bill, which made permanent most of the Bush tax cuts originally passed in 2001 and 2003 while also raising tax rates on the highest income levels. He was one of 85 Republicans that voted in favor of the bill. The bill was passed in the House by a 257/167 vote on January 1, 2013.[9]

LoBiondo ran for re-election in 2012.[10] He defeated Michael Assad in the June 5 Republican primary and will face Independent David Bowen Sr. and Democrat Cassandra Shober in the general election.[11]
