Girod is a former Real Estate Developer. He was also partner in Lakeside Assisted Care Facility. He is currently a dentist.
Girod earned his BS from Oregon State University. He went on to receive his DMD from Oregon Health Sciences University. He then earned his MPA from Harvard University.

Girod won re-election in the 2012 election for Oregon State Senate District 9. Girod was unopposed in the May 15 Republican primary and defeated Steve Frank (D) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]
