Fred Schmidt recall, Columbia, Missouri (2012)
An effort to recall Fred Schmidt from his elected position on the Columbia, Missouri, city council was launched in May 2012. The recall effort did not result in a recall election. Schmidt represents the First Ward.
Reasons for recall
A group called Keep Columbia Free organized the recall effort. Mark Flakne serves as president of the group, and Mitch Richards is treasurer. Schmidt became the target of a recall campaign due to his vote to re-establish an Enhanced Enterprise Zone Board (EEZ). The purpose of the EEZ is to use tax incentives to entice businesses to bring manufacturing jobs to Columbia.
Path to the ballot
300 signatures of First Ward voters would have been required to force a recall election.
