Fridley City Charter Amendment (December 2009)
The amendment was defeated
City voters were asked if they wanted to approve the ability of the city council to deal with state aid cuts more quickly in regards to allowing the city to hold special elections to raise taxes or fees within the city that are more than 5 percent. Since this was defeated the council will have to make ore budget cuts and discuss what to do about further cuts in state money. The only way for there to be a raise of more than 5 percent is if the election is held during a general election date. The voter turnout for the election was also low, about 15 percent. Council members attribute the particularly low numbers to the snow storm that happened the day before.
