The Furlough Compact is a proposed interstate compact that would allow select prison inmates to visit home in the event of a family death or illness. 33 states have interstate furlough laws, but Utah is the only state to have enacted this particular compact. Tennessee has adopted a similar compact, the Tennessee Interstate Furlough Compact, that establishes procedures to govern interstate furloughs of prisoners. Neither compact will take effect until additional state legislatures adopt legislation that authorizes the state to join the compact.[1]
