A Gabriola Island Fire Hall Replacement Referendum measure will be voted on in November by residents of Gabriola Island.

The referendum seeks to allow the building of a new fire hall, the current facility has been deemed unsafe and could possibly collapse if there is a earthquake. Though the estimated cost of the new fire hall is still being worked out, it is estimated to be around $3.5 million. Fire officials noted that the new hall would be reasonable, not over the top so residents would not pay more than what was necessary.[1]
