Gale D. Candaras began her poltical experience in 1987 by becoming a member of the Wilbraham Planning Board. Her service on the board ended in 1988, and two years later she became the Wilbraham Selectman for seven years, ending in 1997. In that year, she became a Massachusetts representative until 2006. In 2007, she became a Massachusetts senator, and currently remains in that position.
