There was a Garden Prairie Village Dissolution question on the February 2 ballot in Boone County for voters in the village of Garden Prairie.

This measure passed

  • YES 58 (55.77%)Approveda
  • NO 46 (44.23%)[1]

The Village was created on February 8, 2008 after many years of local residents pushing to have the village incorporated. But since its creation, the village has been racked with countless problems. Interest has dwindled since the creation, showing most notably in the village trustees and the village president. The president has resigned two times since the incorporation and many trustees have resigned their positions as well. The board is currently still one member short. Those who have seen the large legal fees that were incurred due to creating a village charter think that the effort is not worth it. So a petition was filed to dissolve the village, but that missed the deadline to be included in a vote. Another petition has been filed, this time it will go to the February election. The residents in the village do not think the effort was worth the hassle.[2]
