Gardena Utility User Tax, Measure A, March 2009
From Ballotpedia
A City of Gardena Utility Users Tax, Measure A ballot proposition was on the March 3, 2009 ballot in Los Angeles, California for voters in the City of Gardena.
Measure A was approved.[1]
The proposition asked that the city's utility user tax (UUT) be extended to include additional forms of telecommunications; the tax rate itself is not increased in Measure A. Gardena has had a UUT since 1993. The tax expansion is anticipated to generate an additional $1 million a year for the city.
The ballot language is:
- Without raising current tax rates and maintaining the exemptions for low income residents, shall an ordinance be adopted to help preserve funding for critical City services, including police and fire protection, 911 emergency response, senior support services and pothole repairs by updating the utility users tax to include new technologies; treating all taxpayers equally regardless of technology used and requiring public review of expenditures, annual independent audits and no tax increase without voter approval?
