Maddox is a veterinarian. Since 1992 he has served on the Georgia State Veterinary Board.
He is a member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association, Georgia Cattlemen's Association, Georgia Veterinary Medicine Association Board of Directors, Grady County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Grady County Future Farmer's of America Club, Grady County Livestock Association, and is President of the South Georgia Veterinary Medicine Association.[2]

Maddox ran for re-election to the 172nd District seat in 2010. He did not have any opposition in the July 20 primary. Maddox defeated Marjean Boyd (D) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[3]
