Gene Stilp was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House representing the 11th Congressional District of Pennsylvania.[1] He was defeated by incumbent Lou Barletta .[2]
In 2006, the Philadelphia Inquirer named Stilp the Citizen of the Year for his activism against a bill in the Pennsylvania legislature to raise lawmakers' pay.[3]

2012
Stilp ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Pennsylvania's 11th District. Stilp defeated Bill Vinsko in the April 24, 2012 primary and faced incumbent Lou Barletta (R) in the November 6, 2012 general election.[4]
The Washington Post listed the House of Representatives elections in Pennsylvania in 2012 as one of the states that could determine whether Democrats would retake the House or Republicans would hold their majority in 2013.[5] Ohio tied with Pennsylvania for 9th on the list.[5][6]

Stilp was unopposed in the May 18 Democratic primary but lost to incumbent Republican Susan Helm in the November 2 general election.[7]
