George Edwards is a Republican member of the Maryland Senate, representing District 1. Edwards has been a member of the Senate since January 10, 2007.

Edwards received a B.S. in business administration from Fairmont State College (1970). He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in 1970 and played a NAIA Football All-American Fullback. Edwards attended Frostburg State College from 1971-74 and received a teacher certification. Additionally, he served in the Maryland National Guard from 1970-76.

Edwards is currently a member of the Garrett County Development Corporation, the National Rifle Association, American Legion, Lonaconing Republican Club, Lions Club. In 1997 he received the Legislator Recognition Award from Maryland Association of Counties.[1]

Edwards also previously served on the Maryland House of Delegates from January 12, 1983 to January 10, 2007.

Personal

Edwards was born in Grantsville, Maryland on April 9, 1948. He is married and has two children. Edwards is also a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
