George Onorato was a Democratic member of the New York State Senate. Onorato has been the Democratic District Leader of the 36th Assembly District since 1977. He joined the New York State Senate in 1983 and served in that position utnil 2011. He is currently Vice-Chair of the Minority Conference, representing the 12th District.

Onorato served in the 118th Medical Battalion for the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. He then worked as Secretary/Treasurer for Bricklayer's Local #41 from 1968 to 1983.

Onorato received his diploma from Long Island City High School.
