Referendum D appeared on the November 7, 2006 statewide ballot in Georgia as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved.[1]
Ballot wording
The text of the measure said:
This section of this Act grants an exemption from all state ad valorem property taxes to the homestead of a person who is 65 years of age or over, to include the primary residence and not more than ten contiguous acres of land. This exemption applies to state ad valorem taxes but not those levied by local governments. If approved by a majority of the voters, this section of the Act becomes effective on January 1, 2007, and applies to all tax years beginning on or after that date.
