Georgia amendment suit dismissed
Atlanta, Georgia: Superior Court Judge Dawson Jackson decided not to rule on the lawsuit brought before him and instead chose to dismiss the case citing procedural issues in how the lawsuit and supporting documents were filed. The lawsuit alleged that Gwinnett County school officials and the Georgia School Boards Association illegally spent public funds on the campaign against the amendment. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit argued that state laws and court precedent do not allow the use of public money for political campaigns. The amendment that appears on the November 6 general election ballot would allow the state to approve local independent charter school requests. A similar suit is pending in the Fulton County court system.
