Georgia ethics bill may not meet deadline
Atlanta, Georgia: As reported previously, the Georgia State Legislature is currently considering a strict ethics bill. Unfortunately, with only 48 hours left in the legislative session, it appears the bill may be headed for failure. The House and Senate Senate have so far been unable to reach an agreement on language in House Bill 142. Senators insist on a cap of $100 for lobbyist gifts with some exceptions, while the House maintains a strict no-gift stance. Although voters showed overwhelming support for change on ballots in last year's primary and the governor coming out in support of this ethics bill, it seems the bill may not pass prior to the close of the session.
