Robinson submitted his letter of resignation on July 30, 2012, which became effective August 31, 2012.[1] He stated that it was too difficult "living far away from my family."[2]


Before becoming Florida's Commissioner of Education, Robinson was the Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction from January 2010 to June 2011. He served as a program director and president of the Black Alliance for Educational Options, a national non-profit advocacy organization, from 2005 to 2010. He has also worked as a senior research associate for the School Choice Demonstration Project at the University of Arkansas and a senior fellow at the Institute for the Transformation of Learning at Marquette University. He is married and has three daughters.[3]
