Gibralter Area Schools Referendum (2008)

The Gibralter Area Schools Referendum is a school bond issue on the November 4 ballot in the School District of Gibraltar Area, which is in Door County. The purpose of the referendum was to add $5,300,000 to the school budget over the next two years, above the state revenue limit. The additional funds will be used to help pay for non-recurring educational services.

The measure was approved, making this the fifth straight referendum overriding state spending caps in a row for the district.[1]

The yearly breakdown is as follows:

2009-2010: $2,425,000
2010-2011: $2,875,000
Total: $5,300,000

Text of measure

BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the School District of Gibraltar Area, Door County, Wisconsin, that the revenues included in the School District budget be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $2,425,000 for the 2009-2010 school year only and by $2,875,000 for the 2010-2011 school year only, for non-recurring purposes to fund educational programming for students.[2]
