Gilda Jacobs has been a Democratic member of the Michigan Senate since 2002. Jacobs was re-elected in November of 2006 with her term expiring in 2010. Jacobs is term limited in 2010. Jacobs also served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002 and also served as the Assistant Minority Leader at that time. Jacobs also served on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners from 1995 to 1998 and was Mayor-Pro Tempore for the City of Huntington Woods from 1993 to 1994 along with serving on the City Board of Commissioners from 1981 to 1994. Jacobs started her political career as a Legislative Assistant for former Michigan Senator Doug Ross.

Jacobs graduated with her Bachelor's degree in 1970 and Master's Degree in 1971 from Michigan. Jacobs was also a special education teacher before entering into politics.

Jacobs represents Michigan Senate District 14. District 14 includes the Northwest Detroit suburbs of Farmington, Farmington Hills, Lathrup Village, and Southfield[2].

Gilda is married to John Jacobs. They have two children and reside in Hunington Woods, Michigan.
