Patterson earned his AS in Education from Rock Valley College. He went on to receive his BS in Education from Rockford College. Patterson ran in the 2012 election for Illinois State Senate District 34. Patterson was running against Dan Lewandowski, Steve Stadelman and Marla Wilson in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012 but was removed from the ballot on January 17, 2012.[1] Incumbent Dave Syverson is not running for re-election in District 34. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
