Reese was a candidate for the United States House, District 4, in 1998. He joined the South Carolina State Senate in 1990. He has served in that position since, representing the 11th district.
Reese was a teacher from 1963 to 1985. From 1963 to 2001, he worked as a sports official. He then worked as an International Sports Official from 1977 to 1999. He was also a Sports Commissioner from 1977 to 2000. He is currently the owner of Krispy Kreme Doughnut Company.
Reese earned his AA from Mars Hill College in 1961. He went on to receive his BA from Auburn University in 1963. He then earned his MA from Converse College in 1967.

Reese won election in the 2012 election for South Carolina State Senate District 11. Reese ran unopposed in the June 12 Democratic primary and defeated Kerry Wood (R-Petition) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1] [2]
2008
Reese won re-election for District 11 of the South Carolina State Senate with 19,187 votes, ahead of Republican Mike Gardner (14,930) and write-ins (45).[3]
Reese raised $127,666 for his campaign, against $59,111 by Gardner.[4]
