Butler was Director for Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney's Get Out the Vote Campaign in 1992.
Butler was in the United States Speaker Program for the United States Information Agency. She was a Fiscal Accounting Assistant for the Health Sciences Center Library at Emory University from 1981 to 1993. She then worked as Legislative Assistant for United States Congresswoman McKinney from 1993 to 1995. In 1996 she was Assistant to the Director for AmeriCorps Team for National Service. She then worked as Executive Assistant for the Dekalb County Sheriff's Office from 1997 to 1999.
Butler earned her BA from Perimeter College in 1984.
