Governor Malloy wants tighter gun laws
By Justin Haas
Although the governor admitted that he has no role in drafting legislation, he said "They have a job to do. I've got a pulpit. I've done the work. I'm speaking to the issue. The lieutenant governor and I have worked on this pretty heavily for a while and this was the time to speak to it."
The proposal included an expansion of background checks for gun sales, a ban on large-capacity ammunition magazines, improvement of existing laws, safer gun storage, and broadening the assault weapons ban currently in place.
Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R) said the following, "I'm very proud of the Democrats and Republicans working on the task force. We'll have a very broad, comprehensive package that we'll present to the governor by mid-March."
