- Excerpt: "It is the engine that creates jobs that support the working men and women of Idaho, puts the bread on the table, supports the schools, and creates the standard of living that enriches our lives. I will stand firm against the undue burden of over regulation and excess taxes."

Paterson ran in the 2012 election for Idaho House of Representatives District 16B. Paterson defeated Fairy Hitchcock in the Republican primary on May 15 and was defeated by Hy Kloc in the general election on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4]
