Brownfield ran in the 2012 election for Illinois State Senate District 23. Brownfield was defeated in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012. He faced Kevin Allen and Thomas E. Cullerton. Incumbent Carole Pankau (R) is defeated Randy Ramey in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]

Brownfield grew up in San Pedro, California. He moved to the Chicago area in 1999. Brownfield currently lives in Bartlett with his wife Debbie and daughters Olivia and Lindsey.[1]
