Biography

Gregory Creswell was born in Detroit, Michigan. Creswell attended Wayne County Community College. His career experience includes working as a dietary attendant, shipping and receiving clerk, warehouse man, mailroom clerk, and medical records clerk. Creswell was a founding member of Brass Roots and has been affiliated with the Michigan Libertarian Party and the Second Canaan Baptist Church.[1]

A special election for the position of Michigan House of Representatives District 1 took place on November 7, 2017. A primary election took place on August 8, 2017. The filing deadline was April 25, 2017.[2]

The seat became vacant on February 7, 2017, when Brian Banks (D) resigned after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor that involved falsifying financial information in order to apply for a loan.[3]

Tenisha Yancey defeated Sandra Bucciero, Ronald Diebel, John Donahue, Burgess Foster, Kirkland Garey, Keith Hollowell, Justin Johnson, Gowana Mancill Jr., Pamela Sossi, and Washington Youson in the Democratic primary. Mark Corcoran defeated William Phillips in the Republican primary. Yancey defeated Corcoran and Libertarian Gregory Creswell in the special election.[4][5]

Incumbent Brenda Lawrence (D) defeated Howard Klausner (R), Gregory Creswell (L), and Marcia Squier (G) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Lawrence defeated Terrance Morrison and Vanessa Moss in the Democratic primary on August 2, 2016.[6][7][8][9]

Creswell was defeated by Democrat Dan Kildee.[10] Creswell ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Michigan's 5th District. Creswell ran as a Libertarian candidate. He faced Jim Slezak (R), Dan Kildee (D) and David Davenport (I) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[11]
