Joiner was defeated by incumbent Steve Cohen.[2] Joiner ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Tennessee's 9th District. Joiner ran as an Independent. He faced George Flinn Jr. (R), incumbent Steve Cohen (D), and Brian Saulsberry (I) in the general election on November 6, 2012.
