On January 31, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Phillips for a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.[2] A hearing took place in the U.S. Senate on March 12. A vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee is expected in April with confirmation in May or June.[1]
Phillips was named an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Wyoming in 2003 and served in the role until 2010, when he was named Special Assistant to the Governor for Legislative Affairs by Gov. Mead.[3]
Biography
Phillips was born in Colorado and raised in Wyoming. Following his graduation from law school, Phillips served as a law clerk to Alan Johnson, U.S. District Court Judge in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He then joined his father and brother's general law practice and concurrently served two terms in the state senate. In 1998, Phillips started his own firm with future governor Matt Mead, which operated until October 2001. Phillis joined Mead in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Cheyenne in 2003 as an Assistant United States Attorney. He served in this position until being named attorney general by Mead.[3]

Phillips was first appointed as Attorney General of Wyoming in March 2011 by Governor Matt Mead (R). Mead stated, "Greg is a critical thinker and he gets the job done. His leadership is exactly what Wyoming needs to address tough issues such as federal health care mandates and wolf management."[5]
