A Hamburg Primary School Extension measure was voted on July 18, 2010 in the city of Hamburg, in Germany, where it was defeated
This measure was defeated with 55 percent of the votes against the issue.
This measure had sought to extend primary school from four years to six years, in the hopes that more students would be able to get into elite high schools and later universities. The government of Hamburg had centered its education platform around this issue and as a result of the defeated has left the government unsure. This has also led to the resignation of the city Mayor who felt the issue was a blow to his government.[1]
