The Harris County Jail Proposal may appear on the November 2, 2010 ballot in Harris County. The measure calls for a $256 million facility that would ease the overcrowding of the county’s downtown facilities.[1]

Sheriff Adrian Garcia is backing the measure that, if enacted by a majority of county voters, would establish a new booking center that would hold approximately 2,193 prisoners. According to reports, the facility woud hve about 1,200 beds.

Garcia has stated that the current downtown facility is filled to capacity, saying: “I'm concerned about the safety of my employees, as well as the safety of the people we're processing.”
