Munford received his bachelor's and master's degrees in, respectively, Biology and Physical Education and Guidance and Counseling and Political Science from Montana State University. He is a retired school teacher and former basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers. He and his wife, Viviana, have five children: Vivian, Helen, Donna, Jamila and Steve.
