| Judge orders Stop Rail Now petitions accepted
August 14, 2008:Circuit Court Judge Karl Sakamoto ordered the Honolulu City clerk on Aug. 14, 2008, to accept the Stop Rail Now petitions to put the anti-rail ordinance before Honolulu voters in November.[1]
Stop Rail Now claims it has collected 49,041 signatures. The group sued the city after Honolulu City Clerk Denise De Costa refused to accept the petition, claiming it was delivered too late to make the November election.[1]
Under Judge Sakamoto's decision, the clerk has 20 business days to verify whether the group gathered enough valid signatures to place the issue before voters.[1]
