Heather McTeer was a 2012
Democratic candidate seeking election to the
U.S. House representing
the 2nd Congressional District of
Mississippi. She was defeated by incumbent
Bennie Thompson in the March 13, 2012 primary.

Biography
McTeer earned a Bachelor's in Sociology from Spelman College in Atlanta and she received a Juris Doctorate from Tulane Law School. She was a member of McTeer & Associates Law firm. In 2003, McTeer was elected mayor of Greenville, Mississippi. She was re-elected again in 2007. McTeer is the first African-American and first female to serve as mayor of Greenville.[2]
