Heather McTeer was a 2012 Democratic candidate seeking election to the U.S. House representing the 2nd Congressional District of Mississippi. She was defeated by incumbent Bennie Thompson in the March 13, 2012 primary.[1]

Biography

McTeer earned a Bachelor's in Sociology from Spelman College in Atlanta and she received a Juris Doctorate from Tulane Law School. She was a member of McTeer & Associates Law firm. In 2003, McTeer was elected mayor of Greenville, Mississippi. She was re-elected again in 2007. McTeer is the first African-American and first female to serve as mayor of Greenville.[2]
