Help:Fixing double re-directs

What is a double re-direct?
The term "Double re-direct" refers to what happens when the title of an article has been changed (or "moved") more than once.
When the title of an article has been moved more than once, it can create a situation where, when a reader clicks on a wiki-link to that article from one page, instead of being taken to the article, they are taken to something that looks like the illustration to the right.
Steps to take
Step one
Point your browser to the page on Ballotpedia that lists all current double re-direct problems. You will see something that looks like this:
Step two
Open the double re-direct page in two windows (or tabs) on your browser.
Step three
- In the first tab you've opened on your browser, click on the first article listed in any of the sequences.
- In the second tab you've opened on your browser, click on the final article listed in any of the sequences.
For example, in the first sequence of this illustration:
...click in your first window on "Administration Committee, Oregon House" and, in your second window, click on "Oregon House of Representatives"
Step four
In the first window, you will see a re-direct that will look something like this:
- #REDIRECT [[Administration Committee, Oregon House of Representatives]]
What you want to do is change the text inside the double square brackets. The text you want inside of the double square brackets is the title of the article you have open in your second window. So, go there and copy onto your clipboard the title of that article (in this case, "Oregon House of Representatives").
Step five
Return to the first tab you have open and adjust the text so that instead of saying this:
- #REDIRECT [[Administration Committee, Oregon House of Representatives]]
...it says this:
- #REDIRECT [[Oregon House of Representatives]]
Step six
Save your work, and you're done. When you return to Ballotpedia's "Double re-direct" page, the line for the double re-direct you just fixed should no longer be listed there.
